Honors for Fall, 2014

An honors ceremony was held on December 5 to recognize the outstanding fall graduates. Excellence in Psychology awards were given to Matt Gladney and Melissa Jones-Hickman. Daniel Landreth received the Excellence in Sociology Award. Mary Thornburgh, who is a sociology major, received an award from the Women's Studies program. We congratulate our award-winning graduates and wish them the best of luck.

Psychology/Sociology Club Meeting on September 24

The Psychology/Sociology Club will meet on Wednesday, September 24, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 245.  Dr. Wendi Wang, visiting scholar from China, will talk about some cultural similarities and differences between Chinese and American universities and also describe some of his research.  We’ll also present some information about internships so students who are considering internships for the Spring 2015 semester can start getting those lined up.

Faculty presentation at the American Psychological Association meeting

Dr. Judy Orton Grissett recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in the 2014 Annual APA Convention.  She presented her research as part of a poster symposium titled "Psychological Impacts of Experiences in Nature" with researchers from Georgia State University and Fielding Graduate University.  The title of Dr. Grissett's presentation was "Relationship Between Informal Experiences with Nature and Ecological Reasoning among Adolescents."

Psi Chi Induction for 2014

The Psi Chi Honor Society, which is an honor society for psychology majors, inducted new members for the Spring. Charbonneau receives Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Brandi Charbonneau (B.S. in Psychology, 2011) received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University. She will graduate in May with a (M.Ed.) in Higher Educational Leadership. Congratulations Brandi!

The 2014 Georgia Undergraduate Research in Psychology conference

Seven students attended the Georgia Undergraduate Research in Psychology conference. Claira Austin, Caleb Graves, Felipe Howell, and Matt Gladney gave poster presentations. The other students who attended were Jessica Durrett, Trenisha Hallmon, Esther Delva, and Chelsea Hooks. The students were impressed by the research presentations. Faculty members Elizabeth Uhl, Judy Orton, and Gary Fisk accompanied the students.

Next Thursday, February 27, the Psychology/Sociology Club will have an information session about internships.  The session will be at 5:00 p.m. in Room 245.  Judy Orton has generously agreed to talk about the nuts and bolts of the internship process, and some former internship students have agreed to come talk about their experiences.
