LaVerne Worthy, a former Professor of Psychology, has passed away. She graduated from GSW in the early 1980s with a degree in psychology. She then earned her Ph.D. in Psychology at Auburn University, with specialization in behavioral psychology and psychopharmacology. She eventually returned to GSW and taught for 20 years, including courses like learning theory, evolutionary psychology, and human sexuality. In 2013, she received the Professor of the Year Award from the GSW Alumni Association. An outstanding service accomplishment was her leadership with the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) group in southwest Georgia. In her personal life, Dr. Worthy kindly provided a home for numerous stray dogs and cats on her small farm in Leslie, GA. We will fondly remember Dr. Worthy's contributions to our department.
